Scottsburg High School student Jordan Bailey recently returned from a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Washington, D.C., where she was honored at the National Ceremony for the prestigious Congressional Art Competition.
Bailey’s colored pencil drawing, titled Peelin' Myself, was selected as the winning entry from Indiana’s 9th Congressional District and will now hang for one full year in the highly trafficked Congressional Tunnel beneath the U.S. Capitol—an honor reserved for just one student from each congressional district nationwide.
During the national celebration, Bailey had the opportunity to meet Indiana Congresswoman Erin Houchin. The event brought together young artists and their families from across all 50 states, creating a powerful moment of unity through the lens of visual storytelling.
As part of her award, Bailey received two round-trip airline tickets to the ceremony, allowing her and a guest to attend the exclusive event. Her work now joins a remarkable collection of student art that will inspire members of Congress, staff, and visitors throughout the coming year.
Bailey’s achievement shines a spotlight not only on her talent, but also on the strength of the arts program at Scottsburg High School. Her accomplishment stands as a proud moment for her school, her community, and the state of Indiana.
