A Scott County man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving two minors.
Indiana State Police troopers arrested Robert Stewart, 68, of Lexington, Indiana, on Friday afternoon, March 20, 2026, at his residence. According to authorities, the arrest was carried out without incident by troopers from the ISP Sellersburg Post, who were serving a warrant issued by the Scott County Circuit Court.
The investigation began in February 2026 after a family case manager with the Indiana Department of Child Services reported allegations of inappropriate sexual contact to ISP Detective Rob Caudill. Working in coordination with DCS personnel, Detective Caudill conducted an investigation that included a forensic interview of the victims at a local child advocacy center.
Upon completion of the initial investigation, all findings were submitted to the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Based on the evidence presented, prosecutors secured an arrest warrant charging Stewart with multiple offenses.
Stewart faces four counts of child molesting as a Level 1 felony, alleging the defendant is at least 21 years of age, along with eight counts of child molesting as a Level 4 felony involving fondling or touching of a child under the age of 14.
Following his arrest, Stewart was transported to the Scott County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond pending his initial court appearance.
Authorities remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
