he Scottsburg City Council will hold a public hearing this month to consider a proposed ordinance that would raise water rates for residential, commercial, and fire protection customers served by the Scottsburg Water Utility.

The proposed changes, outlined in Ordinance No. 2025-9, would adopt and approve a resolution from the City of Scottsburg Department of Waterworks recommending the new rates. Under the proposal, minimum monthly charges for typical residential customers with a 5/8-inch meter would rise from $18.53 to $19.09, while larger commercial and industrial meters would see proportionate increases.

In addition, metered flow rates per 1,000 gallons would rise modestly across several usage tiers. For example, the first 1,500 gallons would increase from $12.34 to $12.71 per 1,000 gallons. Rates for fire protection services would also be adjusted, with annual public hydrant fees rising from $682.35 to $702.82 and private hydrants from $1,118.81 to $1,152.37.

The public hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the council room at City Hall, 2 East McClain Avenue. All interested residents and customers are encouraged to attend and provide comments before the council considers final adoption of the ordinance.

If approved, the revised rates would apply to all customers of the Scottsburg Water Utility, both inside and outside the city limits, and would take effect following passage.

Copies of the ordinance are available for public review at the Clerk-Treasurer’s office at City Hall during normal business hours.
