At the recent Scott County Commissioners meeting, officials unanimously passed an ordinance authorizing the installation of a stop sign at the intersection of Fairview Road and Boatman Road in Finley Township. This ordinance, aimed at improving traffic safety at the location, will create a three-way stop, ensuring drivers adhere to consistent traffic control measures in accordance with local and state regulations.

The ordinance grants the County Highway Department the authority to install the sign. Once the sign is up, and the ordinance has been published as required, it will become immediately enforceable by law. The ordinance prescribes penalties for any drivers who violate the new traffic control measures, with fines directed into a designated county fund.

The next step is for the ordinance to be published once per week for two consecutive weeks, in line with legal requirements for ordinances that include penalties. “We want to ensure we meet all publication requirements before the sign is installed and enforceable,” the board attorney noted.

With Commissioner Randy Julian making the motion and Greg Prince seconding, the ordinance was passed on October 16, 2024. The county looks forward to improving road safety at this key intersection in Finley Township.
