Our Southern Indiana Region announces READI 2.0 awards to boost childcare and community growth

The Our Southern Indiana Region has unveiled the latest funding allocations under the Indiana Regional Acceleration and Development Initiative 2.0 (READI 2.0), targeting transformative projects in Scott and Washington counties. These investments aim to enhance the quality of life, foster vibrant communities, and address critical childcare shortages in the region.

Two major projects, focused on increasing childcare availability, have received a combined $2.7 million in READI 2.0 funding, emphasizing the region's commitment to making childcare more affordable and accessible for families.

A $1 million allocation will enable the John Hill Child Care Center at the Scott County Family YMCA to convert an unused pool area into a state-of-the-art childcare facility. The $2.85 million project will include:

• 10,000 square feet of renovated indoor space

• A 15,000 square foot playground

• Parking and multipurpose meeting areas

  
  

The initiative will provide new childcare options in Scottsburg and its surrounding areas, filling a critical gap for families. Construction is expected to be completed by January 2027.

The Washington County YMCA has been awarded $1.7 million for a capital expansion project designed to address childcare and recreational needs. The $3.8 million investment will include:

• A 7,000 square foot childcare center with four classrooms, adding 50 seats for children aged 0-3

• A 14,000 square foot community center, offering spaces for sports, senior group exercises, and a dedicated youth and teen area

Construction on this project will begin this month (January), with completion anticipated in 12-18 months.

As these projects take shape, families in Scott and Washington counties can look forward to improved access to childcare and enhanced community resources, underscoring the region's dedication to long-term growth and sustainability.
