The Scott County Commissioners discussed several key updates at the Transfer Station during a recent meeting, including equipment upgrades, operational oversight, and a potential pay increase for an employee taking on additional responsibilities.

Commissioners voiced support for designating a supervisor at the Transfer Station, along with recommending a $1-per-hour raise. The current employee opens the facility daily for Austin’s trash disposal and would serve as the primary on-site authority, ensuring compliance with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations. The move would require the council to update the salary ordinance and approve the raise. Commissioners agreed to request a revised job description before formally sending the pay request to the council.

In a major equipment development, Morgan Foods has donated $60,000 to replace one of the Transfer Station’s compactors. The county replaced the other compactor last year using ARPA funds, meaning both units—originally installed in the 1980s—will now be new and fully functional. Officials noted the upgrade is critical to handling county and Austin waste efficiently and reducing costs.

Commissioners expressed gratitude to Morgan Foods and John Morgan for their generosity and support in addressing a significant need.

The scale system at the facility has also been certified and is ready for use, with the final step being installation of a new transformer by Clark County REMC. Once complete, the Transfer Station will be fully operational with its updated equipment.
