In a joint effort to enhance local infrastructure and maintenance capabilities, the Scott County Council has approved an interlocal agreement with Jefferson County to purchase a chipper for $410,000 and enter into the agreement.
The agreement underscores the collaborative relationship between the two counties, aiming to share resources and reduce costs. The equipment is critical for using in chip sealing roadways.
The decision comes after the County Council and Commissioners met in joint sessions to discuss the use of remaining ARPA funds that must be under contract by December 31, 2024 or the remaining $1.1 million will return to the federal government.
Had the county not entered into the agreement, which includes Jefferson County purchasing two pieces of equipment, Scott County would have been out approximately $700,000 for chip
sealing. The agreement allows the counties to use each other's equipment which will be stored in Jefferson County.
The agreement is for one-year, after which if the county decides to not renew, the piece of equipment can be kept or sold.
The commissioners are deciding how to spend, and creating resolutions, for the remaining estimated $694,000.
