The girls softball season for Washington County has returned. After a winter that felt like it would never end and then a small monsoon season in early April games were finally able to commence.
The Salem Lady Lions started out their season with their bats on fire. They were facing the Jeffersonville Lady Red Devils. It was the Lions Kenadie Garloch who was locked in from the start. She doubled in the first, singled in the third, and singled in the fourth going 3 for 4 for the game. The rest of the team fed of her energy as they put up 7 runs in the first inning.
The second inning saw both teams put a goose egg on the scoreboard but the Lions picked it back up in the third and fourth innings as they delivered the knockout punch putting up thirteen runs in the two innings. This led to a run rule after the fourth with the Lady Lions winning 20-0. The next night April 9th the Lady Lions traveled to Lanesville for a game with the Lady Eagles.
The bats started out hot once again for the Lions as Sydney Wilson doubled to center and Rachel Little singling down the right field line each driving in a run giving the Lions an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Ladie Lions would tack on another run in the top of the second going up 3-0.
The Lady Eagles would win the third inning getting a run across to make it a 3-1 game. The Lady Lions were able to get that run back in the top of the fourth and were able to win their second game in as many of days winning 4-2. The West Washington Lady Senators started their portion of the season with a road game against the Clarksville
Lady Generals. The Lady Senators took an early lead of 1-0 after half an inning but saw that lead disappear when the home team went yard in their turn in the inning. The Lady Senators offense took it personally and ripped off ten unanswered runs cruising to an 11-1 victory.
The Lady Senators collected 11 hits in the game with Macy Lowery, Layla Manship, Lilly Thompson, and Meredith Deaton each recording multiple hits in the contest. The next night they were able to return home and face off against the Lanesville Lady Eagles. Macy Lowery kept up a hot bat as she went three for four in the contest with two singles and a double.
This propelled the Lady Senators to a 2-0 start as they dispatched the Lady Eagles 9-3. The Eastern Lady Musketeers split their first two games with contests against the Orleans Lady Bulldogs and the Mitchel Lady Bluejackets. Offense was scarce in the game against the Lady Bulldogs as both teams were strong in the circle. Senior Bracie Jackson started in the circle for the Lady Musketeers and recorded 18 of the 21 outs. She struck out 10 batters and issued zero walks.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to squeeze one more run across the plate than did the Lady Senators as they would win the game 3-2. The next night the Lady Musketeers took their frustrations out on the Lady Bluejackets.
Ivy Dixon paced the Lady Musketeers driving in four runs on three hits as the Lady Musketeer offense exploded. They put up five runs in the first, two runs in the second and seven runs in the third to race out to a 14-0 lead. The Lady Bluejackets were able to squeak a run across in the top of the fourth but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Musketeers picked up their first win in the young season 14-1.
