At the Monday, August 13 meeting of the SCSD2 (Scott County School District 2) board, Superintendent Marc Slaton proposed the hiring of an overseer of pre-k with a $3,000 yearly stipend. With the recent issues of funds misallocation, the early childhood education program was cut from 14 classrooms to 5. Slaton said, “from phasing out a full-time position, it saved the district $40,000. We are asking for $3,000 of that back.” The district would still be saving $37,000 annually.

Some of the responsibilities of the full-time employee was distributed amongst principals and teachers, however there is still a need for an overseer to keep the school in compliance with state requirements, such as child registration, certifications, etc.

The district will post the job with the role possibly being assumed by a current employee with the needed skills. Slaton stated that hopefully there will be someone named by the next meeting on Wednesday, August 28. The board voted unanimously in favor of the new role.
