A long-anticipated dream has become reality at the Scott County Fairgrounds with the completion of a brand-new, rodeo arena—thanks to the unwavering support of local leaders, generous grants, and dedicated partnerships.
For years, various organizations expressed interest in hosting rodeo-style events in Scott County but plans often fizzled out due to the limitations of the fairgrounds’ former wooden arena. Recognizing the need for a safer and more durable space, the Scott County Fair Board began exploring options to upgrade the facility and secure funding.
Through collaboration with Midwest Rancher, a plan was developed to design and price a modern arena. The first major breakthrough came with an $80,000 grant from federal ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds allocated by the Scott County Commissioners and Scott County Council. These funds, made available during the COVID-19 pandemic, laid the foundation for the project.
More recently, the Scott County Redevelopment Commission committed over $90,000 to bring the project to completion. Their funding covers essential amenities including new covered bleachers, restrooms, fencing and gates, PA equipment, and sand footing—elements that transform the arena into a fully functional, event-ready venue.
The fair board extended heartfelt thanks to the 2024 Scott County Commissioners—Mike Jones, Randy Julian, and Greg Prince—and to the 2024 Scott County Council members: J.R. Ward, Lindy Hughbanks, John Miller, Jonathan White, John Collins, Eric Gillespie, and Diane Mullins. Gratitude was also given to the Scott County Redevelopment Commission: Greg Prince, Brad Stotts, Jonathan White, John Collins, and Jill Baker, as well as to Midwest Rancher and A.G. Wright Fencing and Construction for their roles in design and construction.
The community gathered on Monday, April 21, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the arena—marking a proud new chapter for the Scott County Fairgrounds and the future of local rodeo and equestrian events.
