The New Albany Police Department is promoting a comprehensive salary and benefits package aimed at attracting new recruits and retaining experienced officers.
Under the department’s current pay scale, starting salaries are set at $68,560.30 in 2025, increasing to $71,988.32 in 2026 and $75,587.74 in 2027. Officers also receive a 1.5 percent annual longevity increase until reaching a 32 percent cap, rewarding years of dedicated service.Beyond base pay, officers have access to several supplemental compensation opportunities. These include monthly matching deferred compensation up to $300, shift and rank differential pay, and specialty pay ranging from $600 to $2,400 for each specialization. A $500 no sick day bonus and additional court pay further enhance earning potential.The department offers a robust benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance. Officers may choose between a PPO co-pay plan or a health savings account option. The city provides $25,000 in life insurance coverage, and officers participate in the state pension plan at the 25-year certified wage rate.
Paid time off increases with years of service. Officers earn 14 vacation days annually during their first four years, 21 days from years five through 10, 28 days from years 11 through 19, and 35 days after 20 years of service. In addition, officers receive 12 personal days per year, paid sick leave, eight weeks of paid maternity leave and 15 days of military leave.Take-home benefits include a department-issued vehicle, phone, laptop and hotspot, along with a $1,400 annual clothing allowance. Officers serving on the Tactical Response Team or Hostage Negotiation Team receive an additional $600 annually.
The standard work schedule consists of 8.5-hour shifts on a rotation of four days on followed by two days off. For long-term planning, officers who retire after 20 to 25 years of service may receive 50 percent of their starting pay to assist with transitioning into retirement.
