The New Albany Police Department is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam targeting members of the community.
According to police, scammers are contacting individuals by telephone while falsely identifying themselves as NAPD employees and demanding payment for alleged fees or violations. In some cases, the calls may appear to come from an official NAPD phone number, but police emphasize that these calls are fraudulent.
The NAPD stated it will never contact individuals by phone to demand payment of any kind. Residents who receive such a call are urged to hang up immediately and not provide any personal or financial information.
Anyone who believes they have been victimized by this scam is encouraged to contact the New Albany Police Department directly at 812-944-6411 to report the incident.
Police remind the public to remain cautious and to verify any suspicious calls by contacting authorities through official phone numbers rather than those provided during unsolicited communications.
