Residents living along the Broadway Parkway sewer project urged the Jeffersonville Sewer Board to hold the project's contractor accountable, citing months of construction delays, property damage and ongoing disruptions to their daily lives.
Several residents addressed the board during public comment, describing six months of construction that they said has limited access to their homes, created excessive noise and damaged private property.
Residents reported construction equipment has left ruts in their yards, sidewalks have been replaced unevenly, and portions of yards remain unfinished. Some also said they have been unable to use driveways and alleys during portions of the project, forcing them to carry groceries and other items through neighboring properties.
One resident told the board she is pursuing reimbursement through her homeowner's insurance and an attorney after her home was damaged by sewer backups she believes were related to the project. Officials noted that claim is being handled separately through legal and insurance channels. Residents repeatedly asked when yards, roads and other disturbed areas would be restored.
Engineering representatives told the board the contractor is expected to complete remaining utility work before beginning road restoration and said they would work to expedite repairs to affected yards instead of waiting until the entire project is complete.
Board members acknowledged the contractor has exceeded the original project schedule and said the city shares residents' frustration. Officials said the contractor remains legally responsible for completing the work and repairing damage, with any contractual penalties or disputes to be resolved through the legal process. The board also said the temporary bypass pipe installed for the project is expected to be removed once the remaining work is completed.
