Former Scott County Sheriff has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel.
Kenny Hughbanks, the former sheriff of Scott County, was taken into custody Thursday morning by Indiana State Police and booked into the Scott County Jail. He is facing one count of tax evasion.
Court documents allege that Hughbanks filed false state tax returns or made false statements on those returns in 2019, 2020, and 2021. His arrest stems from the wider investigation into Noel, which uncovered payments made to Hughbanks for consulting work with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Investigators say he received thousands of dollars through a company he owned while formerly employed with CCSO.
Hughbanks has since been released after his wife posted bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 22. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
