Conco, a major supplier of ammunition containers to the United States Armed Forces, has announced a significant $71 million expansion of its manufacturing operations in Scottsburg. The expansion will result in 175 additional jobs and include a 150,000-square-foot addition to their current facility located in the former Tokusen plant on Weir Road. This substantial development will further cement Conco's role as a key employer in Scott County.

The announcement was made by Conco's President and CEO Karen Pascal at the Scottsburg City Council meeting on October 28. Pascal noted that the project is expected to be completed by 2026, at which time the new positions will be filled. The expansion will involve an $11 million investment in the construction of the new building, with an additional $60,015 allocated to state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment, including metal forming lasers, welders, finishing tools, and IT systems.

Currently employing 175 people, Conco's expansion makes it the highest-paying employer in Scott County, with starting wages set at $28 per hour. This move not only strengthens Conco's presence in the region but also provided unmatched economic opportunities to local residents.

To support the expansion, the Scottsburg City Council approved Conco's request for tax abatements – a 10-year abatement on the building addition and a five-year abatement on the equipment. City attorney Josh Stigdon confirmed that a public hearing will be held on November 25 2 at 5 p.m. at City Hall to allow for community feedback on the tax abatements.

Conco's continued investment in the region, which already includes $55 million in recent renovations, positions Scottsburg as a hub for advanced manufacturing and economic growth. The expansion signals a promising future for the city, bringing high-paying job and enhanced industrial capabilities.
