The City of Scottsburg celebrated a proud moment in local history on Saturday, September 6, with the dedication of the Beechwood Basketball Courts. The courts were officially named in honor of Scottsburg’s two state championship basketball teams — the 1989 Warriorettes and the 2024 Warriors.

The dedication ceremony not only recognized the athletes who brought home state titles but also unveiled recent upgrades to the area, including brand-new lighting for the basketball courts and the addition of pickleball courts, ensuring the space remains a hub of activity for years to come.

The 1989 Warriorettes made history as Scottsburg’s first state basketball champions. With a remarkable 26-1 record, the team capped off their season by defeating Noblesville and Benton Central to claim the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) girls' basketball state title. That victory marked a milestone for the school and set the standard for excellence in Scottsburg basketball.

Thirty-five years later, the Warriors carried on that legacy. During the 2023-24 season, the team posted a 25-5 regular-season record before overcoming South Bend St. Joseph to win the boys basketball state championship — the first in school history for the boys' program.

The dedication of the Beechwood Basketball Courts serves as a permanent reminder of both championship teams and their contributions to Scottsburg’s rich basketball tradition.
