April showers bring May flowers is the old adage. This past week was no exception as April started out with four straight days of rain. While everyone loves May flowers we also love watching our student athletes play the Great American game of baseball. The rain finally subsided on April 7th allowing our local teams the chance to get some time on the field.

The West Washington Senators started their season off with a match-up against county rival the Eastern Musketeers. The Musketeers jumped ahead at the top of the third inning 2-0 only to see the Senators respond in their half of the third and put up four runs. This would be the beginning of 12 unanswered runs by the Senators who would cruise to a 12-2 victory. Hayden Morrow started the game on the hill and recorded five strike outs in just 3 innings of work. Garrett Drury was his starting counter part and pitched four innings ringing up a total of eight batters. The very next night Tuesday April 8 the Senators put up a crooked number again as they knocked off CAI by a score of 16-3. They started their scoring barrage in the top of the first when Alex Williams went deep for a solo shot over the left field fence. Nash Ables also hit a solo shot in the fifth. Cole Timberlake picked up the win for the Senators only giving up three hits and three runs while striking out three.

The Musketeers followed up their loss to the Senators with another loss at Providence. It wasn’t a good night for the Musketeers as they weren’t able to get any runners across the plate and fell by a score of 18-0.

The Lions started their season on the road with a tight battle at New Washington. The Lions pitchers combined to strike out nine batters as they held the Mustangs to just one run. The Mustangs pitching held their own as they were able to ring up seven different hitters. When the pitching duel settled it was the Lions who were able to squeeze one more run across than that of their opponent winning the game 2-1.

On April 8 the Lions bats woke up when they went on the road to take on the Clarksville Generals. They jumped out on the Generals early putting up 6 runs in the first inning and never looked back from their. They went scoreless in the second but put up 5 runs in the third, 3 in the fourth and 1 in the 5 to run rule the home team 15-0.

Kaiden Romero-Hembree started on the hill for the Lions and was dominant. He allowed zero hits and zero runs, striking out seven in over three and two-thirds innings.
